SYNOPSIS
IBUKU follows Sumiati (starring Christine HAKIM), in her sixties, who live alone in a remote Java village after her husband's suicide. Her daughter, Sri (starring Ayushita NUGRAHA), has left to work abroad and to escape a forced marriage and a violent husband. One day, Sumiati received the news that Sri was on death row in Saudi Arabia for killing a man who tried to abuse her. Determined to help and see her daughter one last time, Sumiati is now desperate to find the financial resources. She searches for friends and relatives and ways to make money, while the village chief Djatmiko (starring Landung SIMATUPANG) helps her to contact the Indonesian authorities and media for support.
